About Southern Metroplex (TX) Chapter
During the 2020 global pandemic, President Yasmin Barnes Jones thought about all the needs in and around the community in which she lived. After weeks of brainstorming, she contacted her good friend, Vice President Jenine DuPree McClaney, with an idea. The idea was to take inventory of the day-to-day needs that began to loom larger as jobs ended for some and isolation from family and friends became the reality for many.
At that moment, Yasmin and Jenine began to talk about how they could become part of an organization that would address the needs of the underserved communities in the southern sector of Dallas, Tarrant, and Ellis counties; specifically, in the cities of southern Arlington, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Glenn Heights, Grand Prairie, Kennedale, Lancaster, Mansfield, Midlothian, Oak Leaf, Ovilla and Red Oak. On May 6, 2021, Barnes Jones and McClaney invited a group of like-minded friends to participate in a Zoom meeting to learn more about community service and fellowship opportunities.
Subsequently, the group began to strengthen the bonds of friendship among each other and engage in service within the community. Focusing on food insecurity, members supported the Tarrant County Food Bank during a post-holiday season donation drive. Members also made individual, in-kind donations of food and toiletries to food banks in all thirteen service area cities.
Our ultimate goal was achieved on the 1st day of May, 2022, when we became the newly chartered Southern Metroplex (TX) Chapter, the 299th active chapter, of The Links, Incorporated.
